Perfume Advertisment

This is ‘unforgivable’ but Sean John or more widely known as P Diddy. There is a quotation in the picture saying ‘life without passion is unforgivable’ he is aiming for the target audience age of about 18 to the 40’s. With the quotation he is obviously trying to sell sex appeal to men. P Diddy is looking out at you (and with his head resting on his hand) as if he is annoyed with you, he is annoyed at you because he wants you to buy his fragrance. If you do not buy the fragrance you will not have any passion and, like the quotation says, life without passion is unforgivable. He is sitting on the bed with one girl lying on his leg and another girl in the background - yes, we can see he gets lots of passion and he is selling this to his target audience of late teens and just men in general - wear the fragrance and get the girls. This is a mid shot and the colour seems to be in black and white, as if the picture is a memory of a unforgettable day, and the lighting seems to be fairly typical: not really emphasizing anything in general. The most important thing is that you see P Diddy and the two girls on the bed - that s just what he wants the viewer to see and the appeal to the audience (the men) is evident. Also, he seems to be saying that you should help yourself by buying this fragrance maybe it is unforgivable to yourself (if you do not help yourself) rather than him, P Diddy, not forgiving you for not buying it or it could be both.

Good you have posted this analysis. Gemma before you start to do anything else, describe, using media terminology, what you see. Shots, framing, positioning, how the eye is lead through the image, typeface. After you have described everything then talk about representation - ie: what does P.Diddy represent and how is he represented here. How are the women represented in the advertisement? I think your target audience is wide. Surely P.Diddy has a more specfic audience? Try to analysise use media terms throughout.

Gemma - when are you going to post your own perfume advertisement and analysis?
