The initial ideas of the thriller opening as a group

  • Some kind of pursuit with the thriller signifier of car chases - a scene with a sense of urgency to connate an upbeat atmosphere and to create an attention-grabbing effect to the audience straightaway.
  • Someone being followed to convey mystery and intrigue - a more slower approach to the opening
  • Tricks to lead the audience into false assumption e.g. in American Psycho
  • Meeting of two unknown people having a conversation - most probably discussing plans of deceit and corruption
  • Following one person and their point of view (tracking shots) to give the viewers the implication of themselves being the charactor - realism
  • Montage of different shots of different things that seem unconnected - lots of close-ups, fading between shots/ none or really shuttle music
